Lithuania Minor was the cradle of lithuanian literature, there were printed the first lithuanian books - The Catechism by M. Mažvydas (1547.), the Bible was translated to lithuanian language by Bretkūnas in 1579-1590 m., the first lithuanian grammar was written by D. Klein in 1653. In XVIII century was written the first classical lithuanian poem by K. Donelaitis "Metai", P. Ruigys during the years 1708-1747 wrote multiple studies of the lithuanian language and folk songs, published dictionaries, etc.
