"Lithuanian Mounds" is the fifteenth medal from the collection "Majestic Lithuania".

Mounds appeared around 1000 B.C. - They are the most important legacy of pagan Baltic culture. It is believed that the mound's name derives not from the word castle (pilis), but from the verb to mound (pilti). Most of the mounds in Lithuania has formed naturally. People used those hills and peaks of the shores to build defensive fortifications with ramparts, sheer slopes, terraces and ditches. In the current Lithuanian territory there are about 840 surviving mounds.
